Two active groups in qualitative physics research are Northwestern, University of Texas at Austin. Some tutorials on qualitative physics can be found here. An example of how qualitative physics can be used to explore student's models can be found here.
The preeminent large-scale knowledge base project is the Cyc project. Their publications page has provides a great deal of documentation about their representations and conventions and goals. OpenCyc is an open-source version that they are creating, to help spread the use of their technology. The tutorial materials they provide are an excellent introduction to some basic ideas of knowledge representation, the contents of Cyc, and how it works.
Bruce Porter's group at UT Austin has an interesting approach to building knowledge bases, and their extensive link farm of KB projects is worthwhile browsing.
There are a number of tutorials on logic on the web, e.g. a compact one by Erwin Segal.
AAAI's page on the Turing Test provides links to a variety of interesting essays.

The Loebner Prize offers $100,000 to the first program whose responses are indistinguishable from those of a human's. There is also a yearly contest, with a prize of $2000, to the best program in a more restricted test.
Despite its historical importance, few AI scientists view the Turing Test as a serious metric for measuring progress or as a goal for the field. See for example Stuart Shieber's essay or Pat Hayes and Ken Ford's essay Turing Test Considered Harmful.
The Cognitive Science Society was founded as part of the establishment of the field of Cognitive Science.
The American Association for Artificial Intelligence plays an important role in promoting Artificial Intelligence research and applications. The AI Topics area of their site has a very nice selection of introductory materials on AI.
